On his travels around Ireland St Patrick is reputed to have blessed many wells, including the one at Glassealy.
For many years St. Patrick's Day was celebrated with a parade from Conlon's shop to this well. Several bands took part over the years. A football match was usually held afterwards. These celebrations continued until 1972.
In 1984 a group of local people decided to renovate the well. They fenced the area and a bridge was built across the stream to provide access. The well is sunk in a natural rock basin, behind an old ash tree.
A statue of St. Patrick, sculpted by the late Dick Joynt overlooks the well. The whole are is tastefully landscaped and well maintained. Pilgrims visit the well all year round, seeking cures for themselves and friends.
On St. Patrick's Day each year an ecumenical service is held at the well.
